It was the home of the Dalyngrigge family and the centre of the manor of Bodiam. The castle grounds are free if you enter through the footpath because of the U.K. right-of-way laws. It is spectacular but I didn't go inside as it's a ruin (in very good condition) and so the outside is most spectacular.
From the castle car park it is possible to follow a route using public footpaths circling the medieval castle itself. From the Castle, it is only a short walk to Bodiam Station, part of the Kent & East Sussex Railway which operates steam and heritage diesel trains.
You cannot walk around Bodiam Castle for free unless you're a National Trust member visiting during opening hours. All other visitors must pay a fee between £5.50 and £27.50, depending on the type of ticket purchased. Children ages five and under are also free.
I also felt the signposting in parts of the castle could have been slightly better. All in all, this is a beautiful castle which is definitely worth the visit. A wet miserable day called for a visit to Bodium Castle (we checked Leeds and Hever Castle but far too expensive).
The tea-room and café at Bodiam Castle serve a range of hot and cold drinks, seasonal meals and sweet treats. Whether you're popping by for a takeaway coffee, staying for lunch or collecting supplies for a picnic, you'll find something that hits the spot.
Finally Wonka goes on to fulfill his ambition of opening a chocolate factory after purchasing a ruined castle. These picturesque ruins are Bodiam Castle near the village of Bodiam in East Sussex, though again there's trickery.
Even during the Civil War though, Bodiam was never actually attacked but merely surrundered its attackers. Lord Curzon restored Bodiam Castle and gave it to the National Trust in 1925.
The castle is protected as a Grade I listed building and Scheduled Monument. It has been owned by the National Trust since 1925, donated by Lord Curzon on his death, and is open to the public.
With its imposing towers and walkway across the moat, Bodiam Castle is a fairy-tale castle and for those brides who've dreamed of a romantic castle wedding, we can make that dream come true with a civil ceremony here at Bodiam. Ceremonies take place inside the castle, under the gatehouse tower.
Jump to. Today the castle sits within the Rother valley as a moated ruin, but in medieval times it was a symbol of prestige and hosted high society. The castle is an important survivor, both as a work of architecture and for its medieval setting.

The Renaissance Château de Brézé possesses the deepest dry moats in Europe. These very impressive moats are 18 metres deep and 13 metres wide! Particularly unusual, the galleries extending under the castle form a real underground fortress which can be visited.
The consumer product Wonka Bar was a chocolate bar inspired by the novel and the films Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and Charlie & the Chocolate Factory. The Quaker Oats Company, which financed the 1971 film with US$3 million, originally created a chocolate bar in time to publicize the 1971 film.
In May 2021, Chalamet was confirmed to portray Wonka, and the supporting cast was announced in September of that year. Filming began in the United Kingdom in September, at Warner Bros.
