Gen Z drinks less than their millennial counterparts, for example, and “sober-curious” Zoomers have more places to go, said Baira. And just like other aspects of contemporary culture, nightlife has become more diverse and now caters to a wider variety of tastes.
Gen Z isn't a hivemind so it depends on the zoomer. I personally don't care for clubs but I know plenty of people my age and a bit younger who are big into the club scene. I think people aren't into clubs but raves like EDC.
While some Gen Zers have turned away from alcohol, many of their peers continue to binge drink beer, wine and liquor. (Binge drinking is defined as five or more drinks for men and four or more drinks for women on a single occasion.)
The types of alcohol Gen Z is taking an interest in is changing expectations. According to a Berenberg Research report shared by Business Insider in May, a greater majority of consumers preferred spirits like gin or vodka to beer and wine.
Now though, with Gen Z still looking for good value, the choice can often be to stay in altogether rather than go out. And even when Gen Z do go out for their entertainment - especially when it comes to concerts and gigs - they don't always feel the need to drink when they're there.

Is Gen Z partying less?
According to the latest data, the majority of Gen Z (61%) report they consume five or fewer drinks per week, which is close to Gen Xer (62%) and Boomer (59%) consumption habits. Instead, young Millennial drinkers aged 25-29 index as the most likely of all age groups to drink fewer than five drinks a week (at 66%).
Gen Z's unique mindset has blurred the lines of traditional dating milestones they inherited from previous generations. Young people today are hesitant to say that they're dating someone, much less being exclusive with them. “Commitment does mean tying yourself to something,” Emba said.
Gen Z consumers are generally drinking less alcohol than older generations, a reflection of their attitudes towards health and wellness. In 2022, they were the fastest growing demographic of non-alcoholic drinks consumers.

Nearly 80% want prospective partners to also make self-care their top priority. 75% find a potential mate more attractive if that person is open to working on their mental well-being. Values-based qualities like loyalty, respect, and open-mindedness are more important than looks, in the minds of Gen Z daters.
Generation Z can experience negative emotions such as anxiety, strangeness, and panic when absent from one's device or experience feelings of being afraid due to not knowing what everyone else is doing (Vincent, 2006).
Younger consumers say saving money and improving physical health are the top reasons they switch to a sober lifestyle. More than one-third (36%) of Gen Z say they're going alcohol-free for their mental health.
Gen Z, unlike any other age group, is most afraid of a vindictive internet that obtains their private photos and videos—and any personal details about sexual activity and mental health—and exposes it online for all to see.
It becomes clear why Gen Zers are being labelled 'the sober curious generation', when compared to, half of over 65s who did not limit their alcohol consumption in 2023, whereas 40% of Gen Zers did.
In 2021, it was estimated that around 62 percent of those aged 21 to 25 years in the United States were current alcohol drinkers, the highest rate of all age groups. Those aged 21 to 25 also had the highest rates of binge alcohol use.
Gen Z women are particularly confident compared with women of other generations. Nearly 6 in 10, or 59%, of women in this age group believe they will be financially prepared for retirement, versus 43% of millennials, 38% of Gen X, and 48% of baby boomers, the study said.
For generation Z, 73 percent of respondents said they weren't currently dating or looking for a relationship because they had more important priorities at the moment. The survey showed a generational gap in the different reasons why Americans are content with being single.
