Very similar coffee consumption behavior can be seen among Gen Z in both the United States and the United Kingdom. 13 percent of Generation Z in the UK said they drink coffee once a day at home or work. Only one percent of those surveyed said the same about coffee to go.
“But by being exposed to a wider range of flavors and cultures earlier in life, young consumers have been developing a taste for coffee at a far younger age than their parents.” Westrock Coffee knows that Gen Z has grown up faster, and so have the tastes that they demand.
On the slightly more concerning side of things, YouGov data shows that 63% of Gen Z don't drink coffee at all – almost double the percentage of millennials at 33%.
Millennials and Gen X-ers, on the other hand, seem to have the highest share of coffee enthusiasts as 32% of them don't think there's such a thing as too much joe. Gen Zs are amongst the least likely to agree that there is no such thing as too much coffee – and the least likely among the youngest three generations.
More than half of the customer base is Millennial or Gen Z – in fact its highest generational brand affinity is with Gen Z. Starbucks has 1 in every 10 Americans as a Rewards member, and those members over 50% of all U.S. transactions.
Nearly 80% want prospective partners to also make self-care their top priority. 75% find a potential mate more attractive if that person is open to working on their mental well-being. Values-based qualities like loyalty, respect, and open-mindedness are more important than looks, in the minds of Gen Z daters.
If there's one thing this generation loves to do, it's game. It's a hugely popular pastime for this group, particularly gaming on smartphones. Almost 9 in 10 Gen Z game on any device. What sets Gen Z apart from other generations, is their reasons for gaming.
Young coffee drinkers also prefer ready-to-drink offerings as they are most convenient. Gen-Zers now demand reliability and convenience as significant selling points whenever they decide on their next iced, specialty, or espresso coffees.
Gen Z has influenced coffee trends with a focus on sustainability, unique flavors, and aesthetic experiences. Nitro cold brew, specialty iced coffees, and plant-based milk alternatives are gaining popularity.
The World Health Organization, meanwhile, published a statement in January in which it noted that “when it comes to alcohol consumption, there is no safe amount that does not affect health.” Among Gen Z, health concerns are just one reason why interest in drinking alcohol has diminished in recent years.
The spirits share of alcohol consumption is also amongst the lowest for Gen Z consumers out of all age groups in the United States. Gen Zers are some of the biggest consumers of ready-to-drink alcohol, comprising the largest share of cider, and seltzer buyers.
Expensive dates, inflation, and loneliness are weighing on Gen Zers seeking romantic connections. Many Gen Zers are focusing on spending time and money with friends. Insider talked to Gen Zers who'd turned away from romance, as well as finance and relationship experts.
Thus, McDonald's earned the top spot in dcdx's latest report, titled Gen Z's Top 25 Most Magnetic Brands. If it seems surprising that an 83-year-old corporation would earn such an honor, perhaps it shouldn't. After all, McDonald's has often found ways to revamp its image and appeal to younger demographics.
The most common cause of their anxiety — the future. Almost have of those surveyed said the future was their biggest worry while 45 percent said it was finances. On average, Gen Zers who take medication for anxiety started taking medicaton at 19, according to the survey.
Social media is a huge trend for this generation. Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok are, by far, the most frequently used platforms. One-quarter of Gen Zers spend five hours or more per day on TikTok. TikTok continues to soar in popularity among members of Generation Z (911% in 5 years).
According to a survey in summer 2022, by far the overwhelming majority of Gen Z consumers in the U.S. wear neutral colors, such as black, white, and grey. Pastels was the second most popular color scheme.
Gen-Z yellow (a bright and sunny color) was seen as being labeled as the next trend that will rival millennial pink. Similar to how Millennial Pink gained popularity, Gen Z today has its own set of preferred colors, with Cyber Lime and Digital Lavender taking the spotlight.
Gen Zers are drinking less than young people in past generations: about 20 percent less alcohol per capita than millennials did at their age, according to a report from Berenberg Research. And many are forgoing booze entirely.
Comparing generations, Gen Z seems to have less of an affinity for alcohol, as our graphic with data from Statista Consumer Insights shows. Only between 18 and 20 percent of Americans of legal drinking age and under 28 years old said they regularly drank beer, wine or spirits.
The types of alcohol Gen Z is taking an interest in is changing expectations. According to a Berenberg Research report shared by Business Insider in May, a greater majority of consumers preferred spirits like gin or vodka to beer and wine.
Based on forecasting and trends, the majority of Gen Z and single millennials will eventually marry. The average age of marriage may be in flux, but it's still as a priority for most people.
Young people aged 16 to 24 feel more lonely than any other age group, including people aged 65 and over. Indeed, 73% of Gen-Z report feeling alone sometimes or always. Loneliness can be as damaging to health as smoking 15 cigarettes per day.
