Reason for May defeat from Dawn: May used her glaceon throughout the battle which was her just evolved ground to ice type Pokemon therefore her glaceon lacked experience and practice which was something Dawn's piplup had. Why I think she is a stronger battler: May's battle with Zoey showed up her development.
