Plan to spend 2–3 hours at the Christkindlmarket (Chicago or Carmel) to fully experience the vendors, enjoy food, and soak in the atmosphere, especially during weekends. For a quick walkthrough or on less busy weekdays, 1–1.5 hours may suffice. Extra time is needed for crowds and long lines during peak evening/weekend hours.
⏰ How much time should you plan at the Carmel Christkindlmarkt? Plan to spend at least 2–3 hours exploring the Market. 🛍️ ⏱️ During peak times (Saturdays and evenings), give yourself extra time for parking and lines. It gets busy — but hey, that's more time to sip Glühwein and people- watch!
Overall we made the best and took advantage of everything there was to offer and had a good experience, but do expect to pay to get in, have it be busy and crowded and know that the vendors are not cheap.
The average time to see and enjoy the Galleries, Garden and Glasshouse is between 1-2 hours. In this self-paced experience, visitors can enjoy the artwork for as long as they like and listen to the downloadable audio tour for an enriched experience.
Christkindlmarket Chicago 2024: 5 Tips to know before you go
How long do you spend at Christmas Markets?
There isn't a set time! Some markets are bigger than others, some will interest you more than others, so we just wander around for as long as we feel necessary and then head somewhere else. Sometimes just long enough to stroll through and drink a mug of Gluhwein, sometimes hours.
You'll probably need 3-5 hours just to see the permanent collection, so take advantage of the resting spots – in just about every room – which can give your feet a break and let you take in the atmosphere.
Unlike his smaller glass works or prints, estimating the price of Chihuly installations is nearly impossible. The artist's large-scale installations are often entirely bespoke, one-of-a-kind creations. The value is dependent on many factors including size, complexity, composition, provenance, and exhibition history.
Think oversized coats, statement accessories, and chunky knits that are easy, effortless, and perfect for whatever the weather throws at you. For a chic outfit for the Christmas markets, layer a chunky knit over leather-look trousers, finishing the look with a long wool coat and heeled boots.
What is the difference between Weihnachtsmarkt and Christkindlmarkt?
What is the difference between Christkindlmarkt and Weihnachtsmarkt? Christkindlmarkt and Weihnachtsmarkt, while different in name, are essentially synonymous when it comes to German Christmas markets.
Normal capacity is 4,000 to 5,000 people, with spikes of “shoulder to shoulder” crowds in the week before Christmas, according to Mark Tomkins, CEO and president of the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest, which organizes the Christkindlmarket.
The Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt in Germany is often cited as the best and most iconic, known for its tradition, famous "Christkind" figure, and focus on classic German crafts and foods. However, other top contenders include Cologne for its stunning cathedral backdrop, Vienna's Rathausplatz for sheer magic, Strasbourg as Europe's "Capital of Christmas," and Dresden's Striezelmarkt, Germany's oldest. The best choice depends on whether you prefer classic tradition (Nuremberg), dramatic scenery (Cologne, Vienna), or a unique cultural blend (Strasbourg).

Adelaide Botanic Garden is FREE to enter, and the outside trail for Chihuly in the Botanic Garden is free to explore during the day, up to closing time. You will require a ticket for tours and events such as In Full Colour: Dale Chihuly and Chihuly Nights.
It's not your average museum—it's an experience. From the moment you step inside, you're surrounded by Dale Chihuly's otherworldly glass sculptures. The colors are vibrant, the shapes are mesmerizing, and every piece feels like it belongs in a dream.
They are beautiful at night, but I really like seeing the beauty of the glass in nature's light and in the context of the gardens. There has been great thought given to their positioning. I loved it too. The colours are so vibrant by day and just as beautiful by night.
Entrance is free to the Carmel Christkindlmarkt. Food, drinks and gifts must be purchased from the vendors, but all activities and entertainment are free of charge.
This was my second time at the Christkindl Market which is set up every year in the heart of Chicago. There's usually a line to get in, and it's much longer on weekends. This market truly makes you feel that Christmas and the holiday season have arrived.
