In June 2024, TDR Capital became the majority owner of Asda, after it increased its investment in Asda by acquiring Zuber Issa's share. Following the completion of this transaction in October 2024, TDR Capital now owns 67.5% of the business, Mohsin Issa owns 22.5% and Walmart Inc owns 10%.
In February 2021, the Issa brothers and TDR Capital acquired Asda, with Walmart retaining "an equity investment" in Asda, a seat on the board and "an ongoing commercial relationship".
The deal is set to complete in the third quarter of this year, the company said. Zuber and Mohsin Issa, from Blackburn, bought Asda from Walmart in 2020 in a £6.8bn deal with the backing of TDR Capital.
Following the successful partnership at EG Group, TDR Capital acquired ASDA jointly with the Issa brothers (our co-shareholders in EG Group) in February 2021. The company was acquired from US retailer, Walmart, who remain invested in the business.
