Though generally safe, it's not a good idea to walk around London at night, especially on your own. Quite aside from the safety factor, it's also a major capital city – if most journeys take upwards of an hour via public transport, just imagine how long they'll take on foot.
For what it's worth, London is pretty safe and 10pm isnt really late. Tube stations tend to be in busy areas where there are plenty of witnesses, so they aren't common places for serious crimes. Petty theft is everywhere, it's no more or less likely at 10pm than any other time.

Hi there Kings Cross area is perfectly safe. Don't worry about arriving back late at night. I recently got back late on a train in to Euston and felt perfectly safe walking back to Kings Cross St Pancras. St Pancras is where the Eurostar terminal is so there are lots of tourists in the area.
No problems in that area. Tower bridge and the Thames path north and south sides are particularly attractive at night. Tower Hill is in the financial district. It will be safe - almost everywhere in London is safe anyway- but it may be rather quiet late at night apart from some office workers going home.
Covent Garden is generally a very safe place. Our residents feel secure walking our streets at night in a way that people might not elsewhere, and break-ins are relatively rare. But a lot of criminal activity does take place here that, while it rarely harms local people, can make life unpleasant.
There are places where you don't want to be but in the centre of London it's quite ok. I worked for one year as a photographer in night clubs in London (Mayfair mostly) and walked a lot after 11pm on London streets in most cases everything was ok.
