The house car park is conveniently located next to the house, garden, stables and farmyard. The Calton Lees car park is located at the southern end of the park. Both car parks are open from 9am to 6pm and tickets are £5 per vehicle, except during Christmas.
Do I need to book in advance? Advance booking is not mandatory, however access to the house is by timeslot, and capacities in the house and farmyard are limited to improve visitor experience. We therefore strongly recommend booking a ticket in advance.
How long does it take to go around Chatsworth House?
There is also a sculpture gallery, the bedchamber, the chapel, drawing room and sketch gallery. Chatsworth suggest spending 1-1.5 hours to explore the house, but I found myself only taking around 30 minutes, although I was not really stopping long in each room.
Do the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire live at Chatsworth House?
Deborah, Dowager Duchess of Devonshire, described the family rooms in detail in her book Chatsworth: The House. She lived at Edensor until her death in 2014; the present (12th) Duke and Duchess live at Chatsworth.

We welcome well-behaved dogs throughout the garden and park, however as there is wildlife and livestock roaming in these areas, please do keep them on lead at all times. Apart from assistance dogs, due to the fragile nature of some of the items on display, dogs are not allowed in the house.
For the Christmas market, parking passes must be reserved in advance and cannot be purchased upon arrival. Admission to the Christmas market is free, however car parking fees do apply.

What date is the Chatsworth Christmas market 2023? While the 'Palace of Advent' runs from 4 November 2023 until 7 January 2024, Chatsworth's Christmas market runs for less time – only open from 4 November 2023 until 26 November. So be sure to time your visit accordingly if you're hoping to visit.
