Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash. This route covers the perimeter of the beautiful park and features views of the Tocobaga Indian Temple Mound and Old Tampa Bay. Picnicking and fishing are very popular near the shore and there are many spots to stop and take in the view.
Philippe Park covers 122 acres of land in Safety Harbor, Florida. It is the oldest park in Pinellas County and offers visitors the opportunity to relax, walk along one mile of shoreline, visit historic sites within the park and picnic.

Philippe Park: A beautiful park with a small pier and beach to fish from. You can also launch a kayak into Safety Harbor. Don't expect to catch a monster (mainly medium-size Redfish and Trout) but this relaxing slice of old Florida is a welcome break from the Gulf Coast crowds.
For larger groups Philippe Park has eight picnic shelters with grills that can be reserved. There are also two playgrounds, a boat ramp, fishing, public restrooms and a historic mound known as Temple Mound that was built by the Tocobaga Indians.
The park is named after a French settler named Odet Philippe, who arrived at the location in 1842. The park faces east, toward the waters of the bay, with a drive that extends its length. It is easy to see across the bay at this point, since Upper Tampa Bay is a much smaller body of water than Tampa Bay to the south.

Philippe Park is a historical site that overlooks Old Tampa Bay. The park is named for Odet Philippe, who claimed to be a surgeon for Napoleon. Philippe settled there in the 1830's and introduced the New World's first successful grapefruit trees. Before Philippe, the area was a significant Native American settlement.
The demise of the Tocobaga was likely caused by European diseases for which the Native Americans had no immunities. It is believed that any remnant of the Tocobaga probably merged with the Creek peoples moving into peninsular Florida during the 1700's.
Odet Philippe is renowned as Pinellas' first non-native permanent settler and for bringing the cigar and citrus industries to the Tampa Bay area. And because Philippe was part Black, he could also be considered the first non-native person of color to settle land in Pinellas.

There are great fishing spots from the Englishman River Estuary almost all the way to Englishman River Falls, though fishing is not permitted in Englishman River Falls Provincial Park. Fish year-round with 6 different kinds of fish populating the Englishman River: Steelhead Trout - January to May.
The downside with London's canals is that there are only two of them. Grand Union Canal runs in from the west to Little Venice. There, it meets Regent's Canal, which runs up through North London and into the river at Limehouse. You can fish the full length of both of them.
