The first things we learn about Lily's father are that he is now dead, that in life he was the mayor of their town, and that he was abusive towards her mother. Lily tells Ryle when she first meets him that as Andrew Bloom's daughter, she loved him, but as a human, she hated him.
Mr. Bloom is Lily's father. The novel begins on the day of his funeral, at which Lily gave a eulogy effectively claiming that there was nothing good to remember about him—he abused Lily's mother (and to a lesser degree, Lily) for years, and Lily still feels angry at him because of it.
Jenny Bloom (née Blossom) is Lily Bloom's mother. She was brutally abused for a long time by her ex-husband and her daughter's father, the mayor of Plethora, Maine, Andrew Bloom, who later died.
In Chapter Seventeen, Lily reads her final journal entry, which reveals that her father, after walking in on Lily and Atlas having sex for the first time, beats Atlas with a baseball bat. Both Atlas and Lily are taken away in ambulances, Atlas for his injuries and Lily for a panic attack.

Anyways, Atlas was a homeless teenager who lived in an abandoned house outside of Lily's childhood home. Lily was a younger teenager while Atlas was 18 years old. At the time, Lily didn't know that they would later become lovers. She dedicated months to helping Atlas and even let him sleep on the floor of her bedroom.
In the movie, Lily's eulogy for her father becomes a recurring motif for her relationship with him throughout the film. The “five things” Lily loves about her father (which are all left blank) are scribbled on a napkin, which she ultimately places on his grave at the end of the movie.

In the scene where Ryle tries to rape Lily (detailed further below) he bites her on her collar bone where she has a heart shaped tattoo. The significance of the tattoo could imply that he was attempting to bite the tattoo off. In a following scene she has bruising and you can see where his teeth have pierced her skin.
When they leave, Lily finally asks Atlas why he never came back for her. He says he did. He visited her at college, but when he saw her, she looked so happy with her boyfriend, he didn't want to disturb her peace.
Lily tells Ryle that she gave the eulogy at her abusive father's funeral and couldn't think of anything nice to say, so she stood there for two minutes in purposeful silence.
Lily is a character whose experience of domestic violence mirrors a dark reality that many women may identify with. What a woman wears, of course, has no bearing on whether she is, was, or could be a victim of such violence. But here, Lily's storyline is in constant competition with her clothes.

At the end of the movie, when Atlas and Lily reunite after some time, Lily tells at last that “it's just the two of us,” her and Emerson. This means that Ryle is not in their lives at all. There was supposed to be an ending similar to the book, but Baldoni ending up nixing it.
