"Clipped his horns" is an old Western slang phrase that means to take someone down a notch or two. It refers to humbling a braggart, someone who is overconfident, or someone who is getting "too big for their britches".
LOAD. To load or load up means to trick, mislead, or “deceive by yarns or windies,” according to cowboy lingo in northwest Texas. The term, which can also be a noun meaning a lie or liar, might also be heard in northwest Arkansas and the Ozarks.

Hoosegow. Pronounced /ˈhuːsɡaʊ/ It's a fine old American slang term for a jail, still widely known today. Most people would connect it with the nineteenth-century cowboys of the Wild West. It's very likely that they knew the word, but it didn't start to be written down until the early twentieth century.
