Mr Karlson was arrested outside the China Sea Restaurant in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley in October 1991, accused of credit card fraud. As he was being escorted by police, he protested his innocence, telling reporters outside: "Gentlemen, this is democracy manifest", and "What is the charge? Eating a meal?
As officers escorted him to a police vehicle after his arrest, Karlson theatrically boomed: "Gentlemen, this is democracy manifest! "Have a look at the headlock here ... get your hand off my penis!"
