Should I charge my EV to 80% every night?

What happens to EV after 8 years?

As EVs get older, the batteries progressively degrade. It is expected that at around 75% of the battery's original capacity, it has reached the end of its life in an EV. In reality what this means is that if the car was sold with 400 km driving range, at the end of its useful life it could be down to around 300 km.

Can you charge an electric car for free at a supermarket?

Yes, some supermarkets still offer free EV charging, but it's becoming less common as many shift to pay-per-use models, with free options often limited to slower chargers or specific stores like some Aldi, Lidl, or Costco locations, while big names like Tesco and Sainsbury's mostly charge, though they still have large networks for quick top-ups. Do you get 45p a mile for an electric car?

Yes, you can claim 45p per mile for an electric car in the UK if it's your personally owned vehicle used for business, under the HMRC's Approved Mileage Allowance Payments (AMAPs) for the first 10,000 miles, the same as petrol/diesel cars. This rate covers fuel, wear & tear, and other costs; if your employer pays less, you can claim tax relief on the difference. A separate, lower rate (around 7p-8p) applies to company-provided EVs, but you get higher rates for using your own.
