What happened to Cleethorpes Pier?
Cleethorpes Pier is a pleasure pier in the town of Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire, England. It was opened in 1873 and was a much longer structure than at present. A mid-section was removed during World War II and the isolated seaward part later demolished.
While commonly referred to as a seaside resort, Cleethorpes actually sits on the Humber estuary. The "sea" at Cleethorpes is actually the mouth of the Humber.

A consortium of developers including Lidl wants to use the land to build 272 holiday lodges, two hotels, a drive-through coffee shop and a cycle-hire building. Pleasure Island in Cleethorpes closed in 2016 and plans to convert the site were submitted to North East Lincolnshire Council in 2022.
The Mullan Area Master Plan is an opportunity for the City and County to further evaluate and align land use planning and regulations, transportation elements, and plans for amenities in an area of the community currently receiving significant development pressure.
Cleethorpes is a seaside town near Grimsby which developed as a fishing village from the 6th century. It developed into a healthy holiday resort in the 19th century when sea-bathing and the taking of medicinal waters became fashionable. The pier opened in 1873 and the promenade in 1885.
The iron pier originally had a length of 1200 foot. An additional pavilion was built at the seaward end, in 1888; this pavilion was destroyed by fire in 1903. A new pavillion (which still survives) and shops were built in 1905, along with an elevated section linked to the promenade.
Living in Cleethorpes represents an idyllic lifestyle filled with picturesque views, ample recreational activities, and high-quality living standards. The town has an enchanting mix of old-world charm and modern luxuries, thanks to its handsome 19th-century homes and thriving local businesses.
Before becoming a unified town, Cleethorpes was made up of the three small villages of Itterby, Oole and Thrunscoe. The town lies on the Prime meridian, also known as the Greenwich meridian, and its average annual rainfall is amongst the lowest in the British Isles.
Cleethorpes Beach (formerly Thorpe Park Holiday Centre) is the ticket to a terrific time with the loved ones. There are thrills in the action-packed Adventure Village, fantastic entertainment day and night at the Marina Bar & Stage, and places to kick back and relax like the lovely lazy river.
The Kingsway to the Sea project was established to regenerate the underused and run-down facilities and green spaces on the seafront in West Hove by creating a new park stretching from Hove Lagoon to the King Alfred Leisure Centre. Following a public online vote in February 2024, the park is now called Hove Beach Park.
In the summer of 1925, the bathing pool just off the Kingsway, was officially opened to the public to be enjoyed by thousands for over 50 years, until a violent storm in 1978 ruined it. It was subsequently demolished to the sadness of many in 1981.
The Master Plan is a kind of political-thriller-David vs Goliath comedy drama involving slick operators from New York City backed by Google, vs the hard-working, by-the-book civil servants in Toronto, who try to keep up with the shenanigans.
It sets out how a particular area can develop and redevelop into the future. A high-level plan intended to set out objectives and strategies to manage development and change over time.
