A Sufi fakir (derived from the Arabic faqr, meaning "poverty") is a Muslim ascetic who renounces worldly possessions to focus entirely on the spiritual need for God, often living as a mendicant or wandering dervish. Prevalent in the Middle East and South Asia, they dedicate their lives to intense worship, dhikr, and inner purification to achieve mystical closeness with the divine.
