It does depend what you want to buy. White City has more upmarket/designer shops but Stratford has John Lewis. I agree with parkland in that Westfield in white city/shephards bush is easier to get to although I thought the one at Stratford was slightly bigger. The John Lewis at Stratford is a bit pants IMO though.
It depends on the weather. If it is raining or cold I would recommend Westfield. If the weather is OK or if you want more than chain stores I would choose Oxford Street so that you can explore the side streets and see a bit more of London.
