The Eagle Market was a50-year-old traditional indoor market located within the Derbion (formerly Eagle Centre) shopping centre in Derby, which officially closed in July 2023. The site is currently being redeveloped into a new leisure-focused "Eastern Gateway" featuring a large indoor padel tennis centre, a skatepark, and a new public entrance.
Documents submitted by the applicant state the proposals would result in a "high-quality" development and would make a "significant contribution" to Derby's housing requirements. The project includes the demolition of the former Eagle Market building, but Derby Theatre would be retained within the development.
On 29th July 2023 the 50 year old Eagle Market closed for the final time to make way for an “indoor go-karting, drinking establishment, family entertainment, amusement centre” proposed by Derbion's owners, Cale Street Investments.
