The next version of Exchange is Exchange Server Subscription Edition (SE), released in July 2025. It marks a shift to a subscription-based model with ongoing, twice-yearly updates. It is largely based on Exchange 2019 CU15 and is the only version supported after 2016/2019 support ends in late 2025.

Is Exchange 2019 end of life?
On October 14, 2025, Exchange Server 2019 reaches its formal end-of-life. The same is true for Exchange Server 2016 and the only supported version of an Exchange on-premises server is Exchange Server Subscription Edition (SE).
Users needing advanced excel functions, improved collaboration tools, or other office 2024 enhancements will benefit from the newer release. Heavy users particularly value the feature improvements that address previous version limitations.

What service is Microsoft phasing out in May 2025?
As of May 5th, 2025, Skype is retired. This change will impact both free and paid Skype users, but not Skype for Business. Skype users can move to Microsoft Teams Free, which offers many of the same core features and more.
Several widely deployed products will reach end of support (EOS) in 2026, including SQL Server 2016 (July 14, 2026), Office LTSC 2021 (October 13, 2026), Project 2021 (October 13, 2026), and the final ESU year for Windows Server 2012/2012 R2 (October 13, 2026).
Support for Office 2016 and Office 2019 ended on October 14, 2025 and there will be no extension and no extended security updates. All of your Office 2016 and Office 2019 apps will continue to function.
