Should I stay in Lido or Venice?
Lido hotels are generally cheaper than those in Venice, and are often used by tour companies. You need to weigh the savings and advantages against the charm of being in central Venice. We have stayed here and appreciated it, but it definitely isn't the same.
For most visitors, 2-3 days in Venice is ideal to see main sights like St. Mark's & Rialto and visit nearby islands (Murano, Burano), while 4+ days allow for a more relaxed pace, deeper exploration of neighborhoods, cooking classes, or day trips to places like Padua or Verona, though some enjoy a full week or more for art and culture. A 24-hour visit is possible for the basics, but staying overnight offers a much better experience without the day-tripper crowds.
