China has the most pigs in the world by a significant margin, with over 427 million head, accounting for more than half of the global total. As the world's leading producer of pork, China’s, particularly in regions with large-scale intensive farming, is followed by the European Union and the United States.
There were about 778.64 million pigs worldwide as of April 2022, meaning that China was home to more than half of the global pig population. Unsurprisingly, China is the leading pork producer worldwide, producing about 50 million metric tons of pork each year.
Pigs are farmed all over the UK but predominantly in the East of the country – East Anglia and East Yorkshire, although there are populations in the south too.
