Should I bring cash to antique fairs?
While many vendors at this outdoor vintage market accept cards, cash is often king, especially for smaller purchases. Plus, you might score a better deal with cash-in-hand!
Good for a laugh and the occasional bargain (e.g. new toothbrush heads for electric toothbrushes are a good price here and the plants are good value) but I don;t think a lot of the stuff is much cheaper than a decent supermarket really. Don't expect much background info from some of the traders.
It is not illegal to keep cash at home in the UK, but it should be stored securely to mitigate risks. The amount of cash to have on hand varies, but a small amount for emergencies is recommended while keeping most in a secure bank account.
As for how much cash to carry, it depends on what you intend to buy. A reasonable amount for most shoppers would be between $50 to $100, but bringing more is advisable if you're eyeing big-ticket items or planning on making several purchases.
Look for signs of natural aging such as cracks, nicks, or fading in the material. Pay special attention to intricate details like carvings or engravings, as these are often difficult to replicate in a fake antique. Inconsistencies in color, texture, or design can also be red flags.
The best-selling items at flea markets are often vintage and antique goods, like jewelry, furniture, and decor, alongside collectibles (toys, games, records) that tap into nostalgia, plus electronics, tools, and unique household items, with clothing (vintage/designer) and handmade goods also being popular, all boosted by impulse buys like food and snacks. The key is unique finds that offer good value, especially items that evoke memories or solve a need affordably.
First, let's look at the early morning hours, when vendors are unloading their goods and spirits are high. This is definitely the best time to go if your goal is snagging the freshest produce and breads and the widest selection.
Sunbury Antiques Market comes to Kempton Park Racecourse on the second and last Tuesday of every month with over 700 inside and outside stalls throughout our two indoor halls and outside hard standing drive in area.
Kempton is a very small town that is often quiet. It is a good place to grow up. Although, job opportunities are low. It is a nice place to live and raise a family.
You won't get charged twice if you accidentally tap two cards on a reader at once – but you might find the payment goes from a different card to the one you want.
Cash deposits over $5,000 don't automatically trigger a government report. But they do put the transaction into a higher scrutiny bucket inside your bank. Tellers are trained to watch for patterns that look unusual for you. A single large deposit tied to a clear explanation rarely raises eyebrows.
There is no maximum amount that the police can seize from you. Usually they will seize all of the cash that they find. But there is a minimum amount. Police can only seize cash from you if it is more than £1,000 (in any type of currency).
It's wise to keep a small amount of cash stored in a secure place in your home, such as a fireproof, waterproof safe. You can store a few hundred dollars to $1,000 or more depending on the number of people in your family and your needs during a major emergency.
