Popular dog-friendly car boot running every Sunday, weather permitting, from April to the beginning of October at Ilchester Sportsfield, just off A37/slip road to A303 Ilchester bypass. Sellers arrive at 7.30 am. Buyers are not allowed on site till 8.30 am.
When to arrive – Some car boot 'experts' suggest that you should visit a car boot sale both at opening time, to view the best items before they are snapped up, and then again at the end, to offer cash that sellers can't refuse if they want to avoid taking everything home.
The lounge can seat up to 50 people and there is a fully equipped kitchen. The Pavilion is available for private hire, and is frequently used by local clubs, for coffee mornings and for private parties, all at a reasonable rate. Car Boot Sales have historically taken place fortnightly on Sundays from mid-April to the end of September at Harby Playing Fields and are listed on the events page. They have run on alternate Sundays to North Scarle's car boot sales, which will not continue in 2023.
Look for a release latch: Many newer model cars are equipped with a trunk release latch located on the inside of the boot. This latch can usually be found near the back of the boot, near the back seat or on the floor. If you find the latch, simply pull it to open the boot from the inside.

How much to charge for clothes at a car boot sale?
Car boot sales are known as a place to pick up bargains. If your asking price is too high you are unlikely to make many sales. A rough guide for pricing is to sell items at 10-15% of the original value. Obviously, this depends on the condition of the item but don't expect huge numbers from individual items.
On the other hand, if somebody regularly attends car boot sales (for instance every month) with a view to making profits, HMRC will deem them to be trading and they would need to be registered as self-employed for tax and National Insurance purposes.

Buyers visit car boot sales to bag a bargain, so if you have any designer or high-end items, consider selling those online instead to get a better price.
The boot sale officially starts at 9:30 am, the trader and catering queue is allowed earlier entry as generally it takes them much longer to set up. Queuing is not compulsory booters and traders may turn up after the start time but may be asked to wait whilst those that choose to queue are allocated a pitch.
History. It has been said that Father Harry Clarke, a Catholic priest from Stockport, introduced the car boot sale to the UK as a charity fundraiser, after seeing a similar event or trunk fair in Canada, while on holiday there in the early 1970s.
