Lynels in Breath of the Wild are primarily found in remote, high-altitude, or dangerous areas, with about 22 total locations. Key spots include Ploymus Mountain (early-game red), North Tabantha Snowfield (multiple white), Hyrule Castle’s gatehouses, Akkala Wilds, and Gerudo Summit.
Red Lynels (HCN 147) are your basic Lynel. Blue-Maned Lynels (HCN 148) are one step up from Red. White-Maned Lynels (HCN 149) are even more difficult to beat and fairly rare. Silver Lynels (HCN 150) are the most difficult to defeat and the rarest.
Blood Moons most commonly appear once every 2-3 hours of continuous gameplay and, under normal circumstances, will trigger at midnight in-game. However, in situations where the game is running out of memory or assets are not loading correctly, a "Panic" Blood Moon will be triggered, even during daytime.
Golden Lynels are the strongest type of Lynel exclusive to Master Mode in Breath of the Wild. According to the Hyrule Compendium, Golden Lynels are said to have been Silver Lynels that were mysteriously transformed once they were struck by Lightning, consequently increasing their offensive power and overall health.

Are there black Lynels?
Black Lynels appear only in the Treacherous Tower in A Link Between Worlds, on the 49th floor of the Advanced level. They have the same amount of health and deal the same damage as regular Lynels, but have the ability to spit single fireballs in addition to breathing streams of fire.
The Hyrule Compendium says that the Common Locations of Silver Lynels are "Unknown." This is because they don't start appearing until the world has been scaled up significantly. If you're still seeing Red, Blue, or White Lynels, keep defeating various enemies to advance the invisible scaling system in TotK.
Lynels are relatively rare, and they generally have no interest in attacking Link unless he has his weapons drawn, he gets too close, or if he lingers for too long.
The more enemies you beat, the more XP you gain and all the enemies slowly start to upgrade. Pretty much all the Lynels turn to silver, gold on Master Mode, except two. The Lynel on Mount Plymus is always red and the Lynel in the first gate house at the castle is always blue.
I've been using the diamond circlet (attack up), champions leathers, and fierce deity boots (attack up). Those three are relatively easy to upgrade and when they're fully upgrade it's a defense of 80. I've taken several silver lynels out with this combo.
Striking a Gossip Stone with a sword will cause it to give Link the current time in 24-hour format. A few soldiers will also tell Link the time in the same format, such as the ones found in Kakariko Village as Young Link. Each in-game day lasts 2 minutes and 30 seconds in real time (making each hour last 12 seconds).
Zelda's Diary is a book that is located inside Princess Zelda's Room. It details Zelda's thoughts following "The Champions' Ballad" Recovered Memory. The first page mentions that the Fortune-Teller's prophecy grows closer despite Zelda's best efforts to research the ancient Sheikah technology.
