A full-scale replica of Sir Francis Drake’s Golden Hinde is permanently berthed at St. Mary Overie Dock on Cathedral Street, Bankside, London (SE1 9DE). It serves as an educational museum and tourist attraction, having been in that location since 1996.
The vessel remained there for nearly 70 years where she eventually disintegrated due to the rains and weather and was broken up. Nothing remains of the ship except a chair carved from its timbers, which can be seen in the Bodleian Library in Oxford.
Since The Golden Hinde was invited into her current Bankside home in St. Mary Overie Dock in 1996, she has welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors onboard to experience a living piece of history where the past comes to life.
