Age-adjusted current smoking prevalence varied by industry and occupation group. The highest prevalence of smoking was observed among workers in mining, accommodation and food services, and construction industries, and among workers in construction and extraction occupation groups.
Cigarette smoking was highest among workers in the accommodation and food services industry (24.0%) and construction and extraction occupations (25.8%). Other combustible tobacco product use was highest among workers in the utilities industry (9.0%) and protective services occupations (10.2%).
Industries with the lowest rate of smoking included education services (9.7%), business management (10.9%), finance and insurance (13.9%), and science and tech services (14%). The data further showed that smoking rates were higher in younger workers, the less educated and the poor.
