Based on the results of the January 15, 2026, elections for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), control of Mumbai has shifted to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Mahayuti alliance.
The government is led by the chief minister (currently Devendra Fadnavis since 5 December 2024) who selects the council of ministers and is appointed by the Governor of Maharashtra.
Fadnavis took over as the legislative party leader of the BJP in the state after winning a vote by the newly elected MLAs of the party. Fadnavis was appointed as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on 31 October 2014.
