Wheezy, the toy story penguin squeaker, was nearly sold in a yard sale in Toy Story 2 due to being mistakenly placed there. Woody, with Buster's help, rescued Wheezy. However, Woody was left behind and taken by Al, triggering the film's central plot.
When Andy's mother puts Wheezy in a yard sale, Woody manages to call Andy's dog Buster to help him, and they get Wheezy back in the house. But Woody is left outside and found by toy collector Al.
Refusing to take no for an answer, Al steals Woody when Ms. Davis had her back turned (by causing a distraction involving kicking a skateboard into a series of boxes) and hastily escaped with his prize.

In the end, Woody decides to stay with his now-reunited long-lost love Bo Peep and gives his badge to Jessie, placing her in charge of the toys. Understanding Woody's decision, Jessie hugs him goodbye before leaving with the other toys.

I guess I'm a wee bit surprised that Bo Peep has been announced as Woody's love interest for the main plot line. I didn't actually realise until today that they were supposed to officially have been a couple in the first two films as well.
As Woody wonders what gift may be worse than Buzz, Andy receives a puppy, much to his and Buzz's dread. Toy Story 2, Andy accidentally tears Woody's arm while playing with him before leaving for cowboy camp (an annual trip he makes with Woody), leaving Woody on the shelf.
The character of Sheriff Woody, the cowboy doll in the TOY STORY series, is named after Woody Strode. It is in tribute to his numerous roles in Western films. #SummerUnderTheStars. Always stood out.
