The son of Bengali writer and poet Buddhadeva Bose (Buddhadeb Basu) and his wife, writer Pratibha Basu, was Suddhashil Bose (1945–1987). He was one of their three children, alongside his sisters Minakshi Dutta and Damayanti Basu Singh.
