While card payments (contactless, Visa, Mastercard) are accepted in 99% of places in Mallorca, including restaurants, bars, and shops, having a small amount of cash is recommended. It is essential for small purchases, certain bus routes, tips, or smaller beach vendors, though card is widely accepted.
And if you want to ditch the notes and coins, a travel money card may be a more suitable option. If you need more cash during your holiday to Majorca, banks also known as Oficina de Cambio are scattered across the island. Palma Airport in Palma de Mallorca has formally activated the EU's new Entry/Exit System (EES) for non-EU travellers – which includes UK passport holders – as of Wednesday 19 November, 2025. This follows a phased EU-wide rollout that began when the system officially came into force on 12 October.
