Michael Peter Balzary (born October 16, 1962), known professionally as Flea, is an American musician and actor. He is a founding member and bassist of the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers (RHCP) and, along with vocalist Anthony Kiedis, the only member to appear on every RHCP album.
Flea's real name is Michael Balzary, and Kiedis nicknamed him 'Mickey B The Flea' because he couldn't sit still. Eventually, it shortened to just 'Flea', and the rest is history.
From his early teens, Flea acquired the nickname 'Mikey B. The Flea' which then got shortened to Flea because of his fidgety nature and his inability to keep still. Some reports claim that Flea - who was born in Melbourne, Australia - was given the nickname by Kiedis while they were on a ski trip.
